A labor of love. I handcrafted the soapstone countertops. I restored the plaster finish to a new archway over the bar area to match existing archway in living room. We opened up the kitchen to the dining with a bar top while integrating floor trim, window cover valences and picture rail all with the Stickley style white oak, corbels and dark stain. Bartop is heated with integrated electric element for comfortable breakfasts. Side panel of microwave cabinet is white oak veneer laminated over steel for magnets. Custom stainless steel spice jar racks make an inset spice cabinet in the endwall cavity. Kitten access was important through kitchen pocket door and laundry cabinet. Custom built-in features make this small kitchen very efficient for a lot of activities. Careful drawer dimensioning keeps most small appliances off of the countertops. Other unique features are the bamboo knife holder, inset in a removable custom stainless holder, a bread box, and hand crafted towel rack with glass rod.
